Ep. 148 – JLU – Dark Heart

The World's Finest on Twitter: "The Justice League Unlimited episode "Dark Heart" debuted on this day (Dec. 11) back in 2004. Even with the solid front-to-back action beats and great character moments

Dark Heart

March is here and that means as the calendar page turns, Cal & Liam switch series, returning to cover Justice League Unlimited and the episode “Dark Heart.” This seminal episode lays the groundwork for some of the larger plot points used for the Cadmus arc that would define the #JLU, but this week the Good Brothers discuss a plot that asks the question “just what IS nanotechnology anyway?” Hear the hosts talk action that at the time seemed grand but now looks a lot like every superhero blockbuster, more out-of-place CGI, some wonky character models, and some of Batman’s new toys. Plus how the JLU greenlit episodes that focused on C-List level heroes, a pair of really solid voice performances from two very recognizable guest voice actors, and why the episode may be in line to be canceled in the future. All of that, a complete scorecard, a new special guest intro to the pod and a preview of next week’s episode on this week’s DCAU Review!

Ep. 126 – JLU – Fearful Symmetry

Kicking off October, the Good Brothers stay with Justice League Unlimited, this week covering one of the linchpin episodes for the entire series “Fearful Symmetry.” The hosts breakdown the normal four categories which leads them to discuss why this week feels a little light on action, how this episode solidifies the connection between Superman: The Animated Series and this show, the dynamic of the political leanings interacting between both supporting cast members, and a villainous interpretation of Power Girl for the DCAU. Plus, a full breakdown of the debut of The Question, how the hosts feel he was characterized and why his voice casting was so pivotal based on his design. Plus more no-good, terrible CGI and a cameo by Zeta! All of this, a full scorecard and a preview for next week’s episode on today’s all-new DCAU Review!

Ep. 121 – Elseworlds – Night of The Batmen!

Four Batman! - YouTube

The fifth Saturday of August 2020 gives the Good Brothers a chance at reviewing an Elseworlds tale from Batman: The Brave and the Bold. This week’s episode titled “Night of The Batmen!” reveals what would happen if Batmen was put on the injured list for a time and a few other heroes had to cover for him. Cal & Liam briefly recap the origins of this lighter take on Batman and then talk about the incredibly earworm-y opening musical number, the various homages to different Batman designs, Aquaman’s buffoonish characterization, anfuncovering some of the legendary voice-actors portraying some of the heroes. They also talk about a character featured who just so happened to this week make his triumphant return to comics in Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok’s “Three Jokers” miniseries, which voice actor should always be cast as one particular character and a sneak peek at what’s coming up on the schedule for the exciting month of September! Ep. 101 – JLU – Initiation

After last week’s historic 100th episode, the Good Brothers return, picking up right where “Starcrossed” ended, reviewing the very first episode of Justice League Unlimited titled “Initiation.” Joining the hosts this week for the very first time is special correspondent James Strecker from the Watchtower Database. Join the hosts as they delve into how the start of JLU influenced James and the others to start their website, allowed them to take their passion to new heights with a larger universe and initial thoughts when as children, the hosts first learned of the expanded Justice League roster. But that’s not all, as the hosts also give a full review of the episode that introduced us to Green Arrow, which characters appear in the first scene and a hilarious fan theory as to why some are never seen again in the JLU, why CGI animation seems to always stick out, which character was recast after a lackluster performance and whether this story was an effective way to launch JLU.  Plus full scorecards from the hosts and James on this week’s all new DCAU Review.
