Ep. 125 – JLU – The Return

The final Saturday of September also wraps up the DCAU Review’s first ever Green Lantern month, and what better way to finish it than with the entire Green Lantern Corps featured on the Justice League Unlimited episode “The Return.” The Good Brothers discuss how they would’ve preferred the  plot of this one to be focused, what opportunities may have been hurt by the shorter episode run-time, the all-new look of the Corps, Liam’s head-canon on why Kilowog’s appearance changes again, and why a pair of voices may have a bit too recognizable. Plus, the hosts discuss the return of the Green Lantern theme, Lex Luthor always being the smartest guy in the room and Amazo as the DCAU’s Dr. Manhattan. Plus a sneak peek at which show they’ll be covering in October, all on this week’s new DCAU Review!

On to the show, Cal & Liam talk about the choice to introduce the newly-minted Red Lantern Corps as the main antagonists, how executive producer Bruce Timm’s character designs translate into 3D animation, an extraordinary amount of nods to a galaxy far, far away and why the most recognizable voice of the episode is both the most jarring, and best choice for this episode! Ep. 122 – STAS – In Brightest Day…

As announced on last week’s episode, the Good Brothers are mixing things up for the month of September, reviewing a month of Green Lantern episodes featured all across DC animation in honor of the Green Lantern’s 80th anniversary. Kicking off the month, the hosts are covering the first appearance of the Green Lantern in the DCAU with Superman: The Animated Series episode “In Brightest Day…” which features fan-favorite Kyle Rayner. Cal and Liam discuss the episode in detail, including how it feels like a backdoor pilot for an unfulfilled Green Lantern animated spin-off, the soaring and memorable GL theme used throughout, whether or not this would’ve been better served in two parts and their thoughts on the DCAU GL uniforms. Plus, they discuss the mashup origin given this Kyle Rayner, the myriad of Easter Eggs, and whether or not this episode makes an actual lasting impact on the DCAU based on how the GL character evolves.  The hosts also preview which GL will be featured on next week’s all-new DCAU Review!
