The penultimate edition of Elseworlds month of 2020, features one of the lesser-known and appreciated DC Animated shows, Legion of Superheroes and the Good Brothers tackle the pilot episode “Man of Tomorrow” on this week’s podcast. Join Cal & Liam as they discuss how this series was rumored to have been greenlit, this version of the Legion and their Fatal Five rogues, an unfamiliar voice cast, and a discussion about whether this show could potentially suffer from having an identity crisis. As we continue our Elseworlds month, tackling Superman as he appears in non-DCAU form, we move back to the world of producer James Tucker’s Batman The Brave and the Bold with this week’s introduction of the Man of Steel titled “Battle of the Superheroes.” Join our hosts as they break down a love-letter to a time where everything had to be a little lighter, as this episode pays homage to many events that actually occurred in DC continuity. Ep. 96 – Elseworlds – The Mad Scientist & The Mechanical Monsters

Week 2 of our second annual Elseworlds month is here and we are taking a ride in the way back machine to 1941 and reviewing a pair of the first Superman animated shorts ever produced with the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons “Superman” and “The Mechanical Monsters.” This week our hosts share their first exposure to these classic cartoons, give a little bit of a history lesson about their origin, and then proceed to give a full scorecard for each of them. The Good Brothers talk the choice to go with minimal dialogue, the uniqueness of them being public domain, the animation technique created by the Fleischer brothers that makes these cartoons so beautiful and timeless and some fascinating parallels to DCAU episodes.
