Ep. 91 – BTAS – Cat Scratch Fever & The Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne

It’s a double feature for episode 91 of the DCAU Review as the Good Brothers cover “Cat Scratch Fever” and “The Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne” both from Batman: The Animated Series. It’s a vastly different set of episodes as Cal and Liam tear the first episode to shreds, from the animation to the plot to even some tepid voice-acting in the Catwoman-centric episode. How can a character be both too fluid and too stiff at the same time? Find out today as Cal and Liam delve deep into the story of the animation studio that earned the nickname “The kiss of death” with their poor animation! In the palate-cleansing second episode, our hosts enjoy a very comic-book storyline centered around the Dark Knight’s deepest secrets being exposed, and an ensemble cast made up of DCAU voice-acting legends. All of this and scorecards for both episodes on today’s all-new episode!

Ep. 82 – BTAS – Night Of The Ninja

Episode 82 is here and it finds the Good Brothers wrapping up their stay in the retro-futuristic Gotham City of Batman: The Animated Series. This week the boys review “Night of the Ninja”, a tale that sheds some light on Bruce Wayne’s past and part of how he trained to become the Batman. Our hosts discuss the choice to make Kyodai Ken’s motivation go beyond straight revenge, another reference to a Batman ’66 plot device, more fleshing out of the Robin character, why Bruce was needlessly secretive about the Ninja and the uncharacteristic respect paid to Japanese culture found in this cartoon compared to others at the time. All of this, plus a breakdown of the excellent soundtrack and a full scorecard on this week’s DCAU Review!

Ep. 80 – BTAS – Robin’s Reckoning Part I & II

In the 80th year of Batman’s existence, it’s only fitting that the 80th edition of the DCAU Review covers the origin story of one of the Caped Crusader’s greatest allies, the Boy Wonder, in the episode “Robin’s Reckoning.” The Good Brothers discuss the perfect storytelling of a pair of murders while keeping the episode kid-friendly, some of Loren Lester’s best work in Batman: The Animated Series as Robin, excellent shadow work and some inconsistencies in the animation, some insight into scenes cut for time and a soundtrack that accentuates the climatic ending of the episode. Could all of this praise lead to this episode joining the “Top Picks” category? Find out on this edition of the DCAU Review!
